ONESTOP Runcorn, getting people into jobs

ONESTOP brought to you by academyONE opened for business in June 2015 a collaboration of Runcorn Shopping Centre and academyONE in response to the poor recruitment and retention services available for the retailers and food and beverage businesses within the centre.

Operators within the centre have been encouraged to post vacancies on the ONESTOP website and all CV’s are sifted and fed through to the retailer saving valuable time and resource.

Working in partnership with JCP and Work Programme providers any candidates who may benefit from further training to support them getting into a specific sector are encouraged to attend one of academyONE’s sector specialist courses which have been designed and are delivered by industry specialists. The Numbers Since June 2015 ONESTOP has delivered 137 training interventions with a 99% success rate, 80% of those candidates who attended are from the most disadvantaged backgrounds and the very hardest to reach.

Not only have these candidates successfully gained a new qualification which is specifically delivered for not just the sector however the brands who are recruiting, they have gained valuable communication skills and have demonstrably improved their confidence. 30 candidates have gained sustainable employment to date with a further 40 moving into further skills development and the remaining candidates are in our work ready talent pool ready for The Range recruitment.

The ONESTOP team designed a series of training interventions that responded to the needs of each brand with a recruitment need, devising 3 courses

Revival A programme specifically designed for candidates who want to enter the retail fashion industry – a full overview of how the fashion world evolves from how trends are born right through to production and taking a product to market- ideal for a pre cursor to any fashion brand and was particularly used in preparation for recruitment of Pep&Co candidates. 31 of Halton’s hardest to reach people attended and passed this course with 5 candidates using their skills to develop their own textile businesses and the remaining attending our retail course to further their visual merchandising skills.

Retail knowledge A 6 day course especially designed for ONESTOP by academyONE using a fully accredited qualification and adding our very own visual merchandising, interview techniques and selfesteem, dress for success modules into the blend. 91 candidates successfully attended this course meaning we now have a ready made talent pool in preparation for The Range recruitment.

Hospitality In response to the Food and Beverage operators within the centre also experiencing a difficulty in recruiting the right people the ONESTOP team devised a programme which embedded food safety, food preparation and food service, delivered by our chef lecturer and giving 15 students a real experience by implementing live cooking BBQ style to demonstrate food safety whilst our fashion and retail students create a fashion show- team work at its very best!

The Jobs ONESTOP has supported the recruitment process for are Pep&Co, Superdrug, Argos, The Card Factory, The Range, SpecSavers, Five Star Café, Love Coffee, with 98% retention rates for those candidates who have gained employment.

Not only has ONESTOP supported the recruitment process in the centre it has also managed via academyONE to source funding to support small business growth within the retail sector by delivering ‘The Guide to successful retailing’ inspired by Mary Portas courses to retail businesses from across The Borough of Halton.
